Wednesday, 7th of November 2018

“The Strong Educational Foundation at ANC helps transfer students become an integral part of our Oswego Community.” A better world starts with a good education which transcends geography, language, and political stances. ANC Education has collaborated with several world-class universities since its inception in 2002, and ANC’s unmatched expertise in US education is the result of our well-established partnerships with world recognized universities in America including the State University of New York (SUNY), the largest comprehensive university system in the world. ANC boasts a strong track record of successful student transfers to the SUNY system; ANC’s 2+2 US Degree Transfer Program has paved the way for 100+ students to continue their higher education in SUNY at Albany, SUNY at Buffalo, SUNY at Stony Brook, and SUNY at Oswego. Majority of them have excelled both in academic achievement and in at least one of the following areas: leadership, community service, sports, creative and performing arts or career achievement.

Given below are a few excerpts from the interview with Dr. Joshua McKeown, Associate Provost for International Education and Programs at SUNY Oswego:

Q: What brings international students to SUNY Oswego?

A: It’s our reputation as a friendly, learner- centered community. The student is at the heart of everything we do. We even map the learning to what students need when they join SUNY Oswego: the innovative interdisciplinary programs enable them to tailor their majors to their interests so that they can get the most out of their college experience. We have a very diverse international community. International students from more than 35 different countries are currently enrolled at SUNY Oswego as undergraduates, graduate students, and exchange students. SUNY Oswego is committed to making new students’ transition to the college and to the United States as seamless as possible. The International Student and Scholar Services Office (ISSS) provides many services to help them adjust to campus life including a New Student Orientation, campus programs and events, support with cultural adjustment, and more. Students are also encouraged to form quality relationships with each other and caring faculty. The location of the Oswego also lures many students, for Canadian cities such as Toronto and Ottawa are about 2-4-hour drive from campus by road.

Q: What are the meaningful/ exciting opportunities students have during their time at SUNY Oswego?

A: At SUNY Oswego, traditional classroom lectures are combined with hands-on learning, enhancing students’ practical experiences and engaging them in meaningful work outside of the classroom. Over 1,000 students per year participate in a wide range of programs through Internships, Co-ops, Oswego Children’s Project, Mentor Scholar Program and General Studies Courses. Our internships and study-abroad opportunities rate among the highest in the SUNY system. Past students have completed internships in over 100 world recognized organizations, ABC News, IBM. New York State Senate, NBC, British Airways, KPMG, Universal Records, Xerox, for example. Our mission is to ensure our students are prepared for the wider world. Experiential learning opportunities increase the students’ ROI on their college education and employers receive job-ready graduates. Also, there are more than 200 clubs and organizations and many opportunities to continue students’ athletic interest. If there’s not a club that reflects one’s interests, we encourage them to start a new one.

Q: Approximately 100 ANC students have already transferred to SUNY including SUNY Oswego. What’s your message for prospective students?
