Students from Lyceum International School, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura represented Sri Lanka at Global Social Leaders’ World Summit in United Kingdom

The Global Social Leaders World Summit, hosted at Wellington College, United Kingdom, allows participants to discover who they are as leaders, tap into and share their passions for social change and meet young people from all over the world, forming new and lasting connections. Lyceum International School – Kurunegala and Anuradhapura joined the GSL World Summit in its seventh year, held from 5th to 16th August 2019, with a record number of students selected from a network of over 600 schools from 80 countries.

Students finish the two weeks with confidence, new friendships and the tools to start a social action project they have created and designed when they return home. Jon Harper, CEO, of Future Foundations says, “We were delighted to welcome students from Lyceum International School, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura, by bringing together young people around the world, I believe we can support them to create a sustainable and brighter future for all”. The Lyceum students have been most impressed by challenging activities, team works , Oxford University tour, motivational programmes, cultural shows, and the benefit to our students had identify their social responsibility as future leaders and had a chance to exchange the ideas among young social activists around the world .

The Principal of Lyceum Kurunegala and Anuradhapura Mr Chandana Basnayake said: "We are delighted to be a part of the unforgettable annual gathering of Global Social Leaders World Summit at Wellington College, Berkshire and change makers. We'll explored the exciting convergence of exponential experiences, connect new people and ideas, and co-create a better world together. This extraordinary young dialogue forum is a particularly rich source of new solutions and ideas for the benefit of humankind. The World Summit brings together young people who are normally not in the same region. That is an achievement in itself, and a necessity." Following participation, all participants are invited to enter the GSL Global Goals Challenge; a free-to-enter competition open to all. This challenges the participants to design and deliver a social action project which will work towards achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The 2018/19 competition attracted 848 teams spanning 86 countries, a total of 4,240 young people and 85,838 collective volunteering hours completed and Lyceum Kurunegala GSL Team project (KIDNEY : PRIZE FOR LIFE) received the JUNIOR STANDOUT award at the GSL World Summit 2019.
