Monday, 13th of August 2018

Pathway programs are preparatory courses that are designed to help international students build the skills, knowledge, and qualifications that they will need to enter a bachelor’s or master’s degree program. The length of a transfer programs may vary from one to two years, depending on the course structure and the students’ requirements. Some of the main advantages in selecting a transfer program are listed below;

Transition

The structure of secondary and tertiary education has vast differences, as secondary education is more ‘spoon – fed’, versus tertiary education, which is more independent. As the difference is tangible, students may struggle to transition from one style of education to another. Therefore, the comfort of starting the university journey in one’s own country, helps the student transition thereafter to a foreign destination. “The time at NCHS in Sri Lanka, prepared me for the university atmosphere in Swinburne, Australia” explained Imashi Senanayake, Student, Swinburne University of Technology

Cost

In addition to the tuition fees that must be paid, students also have to bear the brunt of financing their accommodation, education material, food and all other expenses. In addition, students also have to spend a substantial amount on air fare. By selecting to do a transfer programme, the cost can be substantially decreased, as students begin their education from the comfort of their own home.

Best Chance of Undergraduate Admission

Most colleges and universities that offer pathway programs for international students also offer conditional admission into the school either after completion of the program, or at enrolment. This means that international students who complete their pathway program with a certain grade are automatically accepted into the university. “I selected to study at NCHS, as I knew it was the best path to my dream university; Swinburne” explained Madhawa Lakshan Udawatta.
